It feels that for most of my life I have been conscious of what I eat, my weight, fitness and general health. Two years ago at 68 years old I had managed to keep reasonably trim following the standard low fat diet and regularly jogging, walking and occasional gym sessions. Despite running 5 marathons and countless half marathons plus 10k runs, blood pressure had gradually increased up to two medications a day. I had felt that I was living the most healthy life I could, eating properly with supplementary fibre and plenty of fruit and vegetables. My alcohol consumption was modest with the occasional wine or beer and I have never been a smoker.
In the 1990’s while trying to lower blood pressure, I spent approximately two years diligently following a Pritikin Diet which reduced my weight a little. Before I retired from work, I worked at a stand up desk, walking every day 2 kms each way from work to my car parking spot. However I never felt as fit and trim as I wanted and carried a belly which continually annoyed me. I have been wearing pretty much the same size clothing for the past 20 years. I have tee shirts which are over 10 years old and still worn regularly although not when I need to be dressed up. Yep! 10 years despite my wife wanting me to get rid of them.
One evening I happened to watch a movie “The Magic Pill” and I was astonished. Had everything I had ever learned about good health and nutrition been a lie. I was a little angry and started researching everything I could about diet, nutrition and exercise in order to rediscover the truth. As I got into my journey I started taking notes, which developed into this blog and my book, based on my discoveries. Sometimes the information conflicted and I had to adjust what I thought I had learned. Gradually the volume of “science” began to stack up and I gained a stronger and stronger view about what I should be eating and how I should be living for my best health.
I chose to transition cold turkey to the Keto diet, with some minor adjustments and the decision was strongly vindicated when I had my first blood test. All the markers had improved, I was feeling great and the belly was shrinking. This is my story about my journey and what I have discovered. I wrote this because I felt that other people who did not have the time or energy to do the research, might benefit from my efforts. The site keeps growing every week as I learn more and more.

Same helmet, and same shoes, but 11 kilograms (24 pounds) lost. Amazing.
To ensure I have been giving good dietary advice I recently completed a diploma in nutrition with The Nutrition Institute. I passed with a 97% average so am feeling very confident.
